YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Exciting, enjoyable, and educational. Children have an opportunity to socialize and play with their peers in a structured and fun environment while enjoying crafts, sports, games, and other assorted activities.

Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:15 - 5:15 PM       

Held at the Recreation Center .

Grades K-5, Co-ed

Fee:   Free with membership, plus small fee for snacks each session:

  1st child - $10.00 per session; family - $20.00 per session,   

OR   $5.00 per child drop-in fee.

( Session #2/ January 2-April 30).

Limited to 50 participants.   

No KRC Kids if there is no school or early dismissal.

 

 

 

 

karate (Ages 6 & up)

Learn karate skills while gaining self-discipline, flexibility, posture improvement, self confidence, and coordination. Classes are offered for beginner through advanced levels.     Minimum age: 6   

Mar./Apr./May, 2008

Classes held at West Elementary.

tee-ball

Tee-Ball is a fun youth sport where everyone plays. Players learn the fundamentals of baseball/softball (fielding, throwing, running, and catching). Games consist of four innings, or one-hour limit. Parents and non-parent volunteers are needed to coach each team.

Dates:   Starts in June, 2008 (six games)

Time:     Scheduled/ Tuesday & Thursday evenings

Location:   Young Park

Age:     Grades K-7 years old (must have completed Kindergarten)

Fee:     $20.35 (includes T-shirt)

Registration deadline: Friday, May 9, 2008.

blast ball

Blast ball is a simple way to get kids interested in baseball/softball and teaches kids, at an early age, about the basic fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting off a tee. There are fewer players on a team, allowing more opportunity to field and hit the ball.

Dates:   Beginning in June, 2008 (6 games)

Time:     Scheduled/Monday & Wednesday evenings

Location:   Young Park

Age:     4 years old and above, who have not started Kindergarten yet.

Fee:     $20.35

k-ville campers

 

Fun-filled week of recreation activities, field trips, and community service projects. The camp will be a great time for kids to get out and involved in the community. Camp includes a K'ville Campers t-shirt.

Dates:     July 14-18 (Going into Grades 3-4)

     Registration deadline: Monday, June 30, 2008.       

    July 21-25 (Going into Grades 5-6)

     Registration deadline: Monday, July 7, 2008.

Time:     1:00-4:00 PM

Location:   Recreation Center

dance camp

Learn dance technique and get introduced to a variety of dance styles.

Dates:    July 7-10

Times:   9:00-9:45 AM (Grades 3-5)

               9:45-10:45 AM (Grades 6-8)

Age:       Going into Grades 3-8

child crafts camp

A great opportunity to make friends and express creativity in a relaxed environment. Arts and crafts projects at each session will keep everyone involved.

Dates:   Wednesdays, June 18—July 30 (will not meet on July 2)

    9:55-10:25 AM   Grades 1-2

golf lessons (ages 8-16)

  

Learn the game you can play a lifetime. Participants supply their own clubs. Golf balls are provided.

Dates:      Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, June 4 - 13, 2008

Time:      6:00-7:00 PM

Age:      8-16               

Location:   Held at old VA Golf Course             

Instructor:   Kyle Kincaid

swim team

The Swim Team program is intended to further develop the swimmer's skills and abilities. Practice sessions consist of developing stroke techniques and overall conditioning. Swim meets held both home and away.

Dates:       June 5 - July 18, 2008.   

Practice Times:   Monday/Thursday, 4:00-6:00 PM and Friday, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM   

Meets:       Tuesday evenings

Age:       Open to all boys and girls, ages 6-18.

Fee:       $51.00

 

tennis lessons

 

Tennis is a fun, but somewhat difficult, sport to play. Participants learn skills, fundamentals, and rules of the game. Players will improve each day and learn good sportsmanship.

Dates: Monday - Friday, July 14 - 25, 2008

Time:   8:00-9:00 AM, Grades 4-5     

9:00-10:00 AM, Grades 6-8

Location: Young Park Tennis Courts

FALL soccer - nEED VOLUNTEER COACHES!


Soccer is our most popular youth program. Everyone can play; height, weight and physical strength are not factors. Players learn good sportsmanship and improve fundamentals in areas of ball handling & dribbling. Four separate leagues, with small-sized teams, allow for more ball contact. Field sizes vary, matched accordingly to the age group. Parents and non-parent volunteers are needed to coach each team. Please consider coaching your youngster in this fun, easy-to-learn sport.

Dates: Starts in September, 2008 (6 games).

Time:   Scheduled/Saturday mornings

Location: Young Park Soccer Fields

Age: Preschool (4 & 5 years old— must be 4 by September 6) & Entering         Grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5-6.

Fee: $20.35 (includes T-shirt).

fall flag football - need volunteer coaches!

 

Kids will learn the basics of football: passing, catching, punting, kicking, blocking, play-making, and more. Dates:       September 6 - October 11, 2008 (6 games)

KaPow

(Kids & Parents on Weights)

The Recreation Center recognizes the importance of helping our youth establish exercise habits early on. Kids and Parents On Weights (KaPOW) is an opportunity for you to work out with your 6 th -8 th graders and teach them how to have fun while exercising; use the cardio equipment; and utilize the Cybex equipment safely and effectively. Each KaPOW participant will be required to attend one orientation before being allowed to work out together during the specified hours. Membership cards will reflect completion of the orientation allowing kids and parents to work out together. Parent or specified adult must accompany the child during their entire workout at the Recreation Center .

 

REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR ORIENTATIONS!

 

KaPOW Orientations will be held the first Thursday of the month from 6:30-7:30 PM.

Saturday mornings orientations by appointment only.
