2004. The department responded with an average response
time
of 7.12 minutes from time of dispatch to on-scene arrival.
The Fire Department is fully operated by a volunteer roster.
The Department provides fire protection to a Knoxville community of 7,890
citizens. Knoxville Fire also provides these services to other communities
through mutual-aid agreements. The Department plays
a vital role in the County Fireman’s Association through leadership,
training, and commitment to the betterment of the fire service in Marion
County.
The Knoxville Fire Department’s fire fighter specialists
are dedicated to the training of Rapid Intervention Teams, Self-Rescue,
and the newest firefighting techniques. The commitment of our
firefighters is seen through hours of training and teaching.
Fire fighter volunteers
are expected to show efficiency and competency in all areas of fire
services. The Knoxville Fire Rescue Department takes
great pride
in its volunteers, and the services they provide.
Knoxville EMS Services provide emergency medical services to over
20,000 people in Knoxville and surrounding communities and townships.
These services are provided with a volunteer staff 24 hours a day.
Knoxville EMS provides such services under the guidelines and direction
of the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency Medical
Services. Knoxville EMS Services operates at the "Conditional
Basic Level" with services at the Paramedic Level as a "Provisional".
The volunteers provide additional services to the community and surrounding
areas by several means.

Emergency
Medical Services
The Knoxville Fire Rescue Department's Emergency
Medical Services are dedicated to serve the Knoxville community.
In 2004,
volunteers responded to 871 calls, with an average response
time of 6.48 minutes. Knoxville
Fire Rescue Department averages 6-8 hours per month of continuing
education. With an increase in EMS call
volumes, department volunteers are assigned 12 hour
shifts to assure adequate and timely response
to emergency
needs. Knoxville assures that all responders have an EMT-Basic
certification level. The volunteers take great pride in
the tradition
and commitment placed into emergency medical
services.

Auto
Extrication
Knoxville Fire Rescue Department has been on the
leading-edge of auto extrication for the past few years. In 1998,
volunteers began undergoing additional training for auto extrication.
A large number of department volunteers now hold Vehicle Rescue
Specialist Certifications. The certification is a 20-hour class,
involving hands-on training in auto extrication. The course provides
firefighters with the ability to perform very difficult decision-making
in a variety of rescue situations. All volunteers are required
to successfully demonstrate BI-annual competency skills. In April
of 2004 Knoxville Fire Rescue Department was honored with the National "TNT
Gold Cutter Award".

EMS
Bike Patrol
Knoxville Fire Rescue Department saw the need for
EMS Bike Patrol for quick and efficient response to emergency situations
during high profile events. The implementation of the EMS Bike
Patrol demonstrates its success's during the
annual Sprint Car Nationals.
EMS Bike Patrol allows EMS Medics
greater visibility to the public. The ability to
maneuver in crowds and around obstacles allows timely responses
otherwise difficult for ambulances. The Knoxville
Fire Rescue Department's EMS Bike Patrol works effectively with
Knoxville’s
Police Bike Patrol as well.
